Huge Difference – Wellbeing for Vets

Vetlife is a charity that provides independent, confidential and free help for everyone in the veterinary community including veterinary nurses and students.

Vetlife provide support in the shape of three core services, which are the Vetlife Helpline, which is run by volunteers and is available 24/7, 365 days a year; Health Support, run by mental health professionals; and Financial Support, which provides assistance to vets or their dependants who find themselves in difficulty.

At Southfields we’re committed to wellbeing for vets as well as pets. So, we’re partnering with Vetlife and we’ll donate £2 for every veterinary professional who registers as a member and 25p for every pet referred and treated.

Vetlife Helpline is completely confidential, and offers anonymous email as an option for contact if people don’t want to use the phone.

Help us to help Vetlife

The running of the Vetlife Helpline depends on the generosity of the veterinary community, both in terms of volunteers and donations. As demand increases, Vetlife are seeking support and funding to expand the service.

We know it isn’t easy as a veterinary professional to ask for help, that’s why Vetlife Helpline is completely confidential, and offers anonymous email as an option for contact if people don’t want to use the phone.

Vetlife volunteers are available 24 hours a day, and want to hear from anyone in the veterinary community who is struggling. Calls and emails to the Vetlife helpline can be about any issue, it doesn’t have to be related to work; common themes in our calls are concerns about mental health, workplace stress, and employment and career issues, but people in the veterinary community can call us about anything. We’ll be there to listen.

Rosie Allister
Vetlife Helpline Manager

The centre's support of Vetlife aligned itself perfectly with Southfields’ focus on the wellbeing of pets being treated within the centre and on veterinary colleagues working in the local area.

Over the remainder of 2018 and throughout 2019, we will be aiming to raise both awareness and money for the Vetlife charity. In terms of fundraising, we will be donating to Vetlife for each referral patient we treat from 1 October 2018 to 31 December 2019 and for every veterinary professional who signs up as a Southfields Veterinary Professional Member on our website.
